Unlicensed firearm lands two in court

Their vehicle, cellphones and the firearm were seized and booked in for further investigation.

Three men were nabbed in the Benoni CBD on March 20 for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

According to Benoni SAPS spokesperson Captain Nomsa Sekele, Detective Warrant Officer Matsane received information about three men suspected to be behind the spate of violence in the taxi industry.

“The men were found under the guard of security personnel on the corner of Voortrekker Road and Kemston Avenue. They were interviewed and searched, but the police found only cellphones on them.

“Upon searching their vehicle, a revolver with six live rounds was found under the back seat.”

The trio allegedly denied any knowledge of firearms and being involved in the taxi violence.

They were arrested and detained at the Benoni SAPS.

Their vehicle, cellphones and firearm were seized and booked in for further investigation. They will appear in court soon.
