Benoni Indians honours players at end of season awards

Caelum Ströberg and Aiden Schwartz were the biggest winners at the Benoni Indians junior baseball prize-giving at Benoni Northerns Sports Club on April 6.

Ströberg was named the Benoni Indians Junior Sportsman of the Year while Schwartz won the Junior Chairman Award.

Additionally, Ströberg won the U19 Braves’ Chairman’s Choice award for his outstanding performances, growth and leadership, as well as sportsmanship and contributing positively to the team all season, on and off the field.

Aiden Schwartz won the Chairman’s Award.

Madelein Hendricks received the Committee Member of the Year award for her services. The club also extended its gratitude to Sean and Linda Miller for their contribution to the club.

According to chairperson Shaun Deyzel, they held the awards to celebrate the club’s top achievers and to recognise the hard work and dedication of club members.

Players of different age groups were honoured for their skills in various categories, such as batting, fielding and pitching, as well as overall performance.

Tariro Mutseka and Ciaran Peeters won the MVP awards for the U10 Cherokee and Chinook teams, while Matthew Pietroiusti, Troy Branders and Nate Lerwill were U12 Cheyenne, Apaches and Chiefs MVPs.

Besides his MVP award, Branders also won the best batter and pitcher gongs for the Apaches.

Troy Branders is the best batter, fielder and MVP for the U12 Apaches team.

Tatum White, Benjamin Hains and Lucy Miller walked away with MVP awards for the U15 Dakota, Mohawks and Chippewa teams. Keano do Nascimento and Ryan McAllister were the MVPs for the U19 Braves and Comanches, respectively.

Madelein Hendricks won the Committee Member of the Year award.

“The club is thrilled to have such talented and dedicated players and looks forward to seeing their continued growth and success in the sport,” said Deyzel.

“Congratulations to all the award recipients and thank you to everyone who has made the Benoni Indians Baseball Club such a success,” he said.
