Patel honoured for outstanding service

Patel is the first civilian to be bestowed with this honour.

Benoni CPF chairperson Dr Reza Patel was awarded the EMPD service commendation medal on April 20.

Patel, who is also the current chairperson and founder of the Civilian Crime Intelligence Network (CCIN), is the first civilian to be honoured with this medal since the inception of the EMPD in 2002.

Speaking at the CCIN National Convention, the chief of the EMPD, Major General Isaac Jabulani Mapiyeye said that the prestigious recognition acknowledges Patel’s tireless efforts and dedication to enhancing community safety and crime prevention through his work with the CCIN.

He explained that the medal is awarded to individuals who have distinguished themselves by rendering commendable service of a meritorious nature or who have demonstrated outstanding resourcefulness and a sense of duty, thus setting an example in any branch of the EMPD.

“Under his leadership, the organisation has made significant strides in fostering collaboration between law enforcement agencies, security companies, Business Against Crime, Netcare 911 and various other community structures, which has led to numerous successful crime prevention initiatives,” said Mapiyeye.

Chief of the EMPD, Major General Isaac Jabulani Mapiyeye presented Dr Reza Patel with the medal, on April 20.

“His commitment, selflessness and vision have made a tangible impact on our communities and country with his efforts inspiring countless individuals to get involved. His organisation has been instrumental in supporting our police services.”

After receiving the momentous award, Patel thanked those who deemed him worthy of this honour.

“I am humbled and grateful for the opportunity to serve,” said Patel. “This is a testament to the collective efforts of our team, partnerships and the community’s unwavering support.”

In closing Mapiyeye said that the CCIN continued efforts towards creating safer and united communities serve as a beacon of inspiration for future generations of community servants.

“It highlights the significant contributions made by members of the public,” he said.
