WATCH: Community shut down taxi operations over Benoni route issues
Entrances and exit routes in the township are blocked by community members with burning tyres.
Scores of commuters in Etwatwa were left stranded this morning (August 12) following a total shutdown protest in the area.
Residents of some parts of Daveyton from Esgodi are also reportedly affected.
Entrances and exit routes in the township were blocked by community members with burning tyres.
The strike action is a form of retribution by community members who are against the new proposed collective touting which forces commuters to board taxis at the rank instead of using the existing touting service, which provides direct transportation from their homes to their destinations.
Negotiations between the Benoni Taxi Association (BTA) and community members, which have taken place over the past few weeks regarding the Benoni route, have allegedly reached a deadlock.

A memorandum was submitted on July 30 to members of the Benoni Taxi Association (BTA) where again residents took to the streets to voice their frustrations
This is a developing story.
