WATCH: Exhibition draws many art lovers

The funds raised from this event will go towards supporting the vital work of Clean Projects.

The Art Alive School in Northmead experienced a dynamic transformation again this year when more than 70 artworks, ranging from paintings to pencil sketches, were showcased at the 14th annual Art Alive Exhibition, held from July 30 to August 3.

In collaboration with the Rotary Club of Benoni Aurora, the school organised the event to raise funds for Benoni’s clean-up champions, Clean Projects.

The exhibition featured young and established artists, who designed their works according to themes such as still life, portraits, wildlife, landscape, abstract and more.

Art enthusiasts came from Benoni and as far as Krugersdorp, Pretoria, Sandton, and Centurion. They feasted visually on the various remarkable artworks hanging on the wall at the school’s studio.

Charity square artworks were also on display inside the tent and the centre’s studio, and a beautiful torso sculpture by Jacqueline Bekker was on exhibit.

Attendees enjoyed hearty winter food while having fun around the bonfire because the public could view the paintings until 22:00.

Sighle Situngu Wim van Dijk and Mike Wald treated the guests to live music.

According to the Art Alive owner, Elaine Marx, this year’s exhibition was well attended compared to other years.

“For the first time, we opened during the day on Saturday and had a wonderful day with many visitors and good sales. During the five-day exhibition, we sold 85 charity squares and 97 paintings. We feel extremely blessed to have had such a successful exhibition,” said Marx.
