Benoni CPF wins district award
“The award is dedicated to the city’s community spirit.”
Wearing a Benoni CPF reflective jacket is about more than just acting as liaisons between the community and the Benoni Police Station.
On a daily basis volunteers take to the streets, conducting patrols and assisting residents within in the organisation’s seven sectors, with their sole purpose to bring a sense of safety to all whom they serve.
These selfless acts were recognised on October 11 when Benoni CPF was awarded the Best CPF in Ekurhuleni award, during the SAPS Ekurhuleni District awards.
Selected from a pool of 39 stations, the award recognises the outstanding achievements and tireless efforts of the community-led initiative that has made safety and security a priority throughout the city.
During an executive joint partners meeting, on October 16, acting station commander Colonel Reginah Rampota had the honour of handing the award over to the CPF’s chairman, Dr Reza Patel.
“This award is a reflection of the strength and unity of our community,” he said with pride.
“We thrive because of the passion and dedication of ordinary citizens who take extraordinary steps in the fight against crime. We are grateful for all the support and invite the public to continue standing with us as we move forward with our mission.”
Some of the ongoing initiatives led by the CPF include crime prevention, traffic safety and fostering partnerships with local authorities.
Patel continued by saying the ongoing need for resources, tools and community involvement is crucial for its sustainability.
“This success could not be achieved without the continued support of residents and local businesses,” he said.
“What makes this recognition truly remarkable is that the Benoni CPF is made up entirely of volunteers. Each individual gives their time, energy and expertise without the expectation of reward.
“The patrollers’ dedication to protecting the community is what sets this CPF apart from the rest. It is more than just a forum, it is a movement powered by everyday people who believe in making a difference.”
The Benoni CPF operates across seven sectors under the Benoni Police Station banner.
These areas include:
• Sector 1
Rynfield, Morehill and Ebotse
• Sector 2
Airfield, Alphen Park, Arrow Park, Farrarmere and Northmead
• Sector 3
Brentwood Park, Benoni A/H and Norton Home Estates
• Sector 4
CBD and Western Extension
• Sector 5
Lakefield and Lakefield Extension 21
• Sector 6
Apex, Golden Drive, Mackenzie North, Mackenzie South, Rynsoord, New Modder, Msholozi and Benoni South Industrial
• Sector 7
Kingsway, Lindelani, Modderbee and Marikana
“Despite the diversity of these areas, the organisation has remained steadfast thus leading to enhanced crime prevention programmes while strengthening a sense of community,” said Patel.
“Our success cannot be quantified by this award as it is the members’ ability to bring people together which bears the most fruit.
“This is not just the handing over of a trophy but a celebration of a community’s heart and spirit, showing what can be accomplished when people come together for a common cause.”
