WATCH: Cakes galore for local charities
The Benoni City Times was among 11 organisations to be gifted marvellous festive cakes.
Sugar, spice and everything nice was used in abundance as members of the Cake Decorators Network set to work to again create decadent Christmas cakes for local 11 organisations.
With their aprons tied in a double knot, the talented bakers cranked up the heat to make fantastic festive cakes which are representative of their unique personalities while perfectly capturing their selected organisations’ identities.
Entering the hall at the Benoni Baptist Church in Farrarmere on November 26, the magic of Christmas came to life, as those in attendance marvelled at the carefully sculpted masterpieces.
The incoming chairperson of the network, Elsie Tewitz, thanked each contributor for allowing their skills to guide their imagination in making the flavourful sweet treats.

“It is an honour to be able to make these contributions to organisations that go above and beyond to serve others, for the sixth consecutive year,” she said.
“Helping others requires team work and we hope that these cakes will make the recipients feel appreciated.
“We see the work you do and this is our way of paying it forward. Whether you share it with your beneficiaries or use it for fundraising efforts, we hope it brings you joy during the festive season.”
Receiving the cake made by Lorinda Pretorius, editor of the Benoni City Times, Lana O’Neill could not contain her excitement as she laid eyes on the three flashing Christmas trees.
“Our publication is rooted in the Benoni community and it is heartening to see so many familiar faces here tonight,” said O’Neill.
“We are grateful to be recipients of this glorious creation but even more so to see local NPOs being acknowledged for the invaluable work they do.

“The tireless dedication of these organisations is the heartbeat that makes Benoni such an amazing community.”
Keep an eye on The Animal Guardians (TAG), Avril Elizabeth Home and the Benoni SPCA’s Facebook pages for more details about how you can purchase raffle tickets to stand in line to win their beautiful cakes.
The Cake Decorators Network meets at 18:30 every fourth Wednesday of the month as the Baptist church.
