Police nab 124 suspects
The suspects will be appearing in Magistrate’s Courts across the province.
SAPS units that form part of the Rapid Response Services (RRS) brought 124 suspects across Gauteng to book from January 10 to 16.
The unit comprising Flying Squad, K9 Units and Highway Patrol members participated in concentrated operations which further led to the recovery of seven unlicensed firearms.
Forty-eight suspects were arrested for various crimes including assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, possession of suspected stolen property, housebreaking, contravention of protection order, theft, contravention of the immigration act, fraud, contempt of court, driving under the influence of alcohol, defeating the ends of justice, pointing a firearm, murder, shoplifting and possession of unwrought gold.
A total of 43 hijacked and stolen vehicles were recovered with four accompanying arrests.
Further policing led to the arrest of 11 suspects on charges of being in possession of unlicensed firearms.
Sixty-one drug related arrests were also made and heroin, dagga, cocaine, Mandrax and meth were confiscated.
