Law enforcement continues to crack the whip in the fight against crime.

Illegal structures
After receiving many complaints, the EMPD Bronberg Precinct demolished several illegally built structures in Cloverdene on January 23.

Residents alleged criminals used them as hideouts and peddled drugs there.

Contravening the Immigration Act
Members arrested two foreign nationals in Daveyton after they could not produce documentation of their presence in SA.

The members handed the suspects to the Daveyton SAPS for further investigation.

Attempted murder
Following up on information, the EMPD Bronberg Precinct and the Daveyton SAPS Detective Service traced and arrested a 34-year-old man on January 23 after a case of attempted murder was lodged against him.

It is alleged he shot and injured his cousin after an altercation about illegal electricity connections at his home on

Ngwenya Street, Chris Hani, on January 14.

Stolen vehicles
Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) officers arrested two men, in separate incidents, for being in possession of stolen vehicles.

• On January 24, the BFS members offered backup to local security companies when a Mazda Drifter with false number plates was found on Akasia Street, Northmead.

The 42-year-old driver was arrested.

• Officers pulled over a white Nissan Tiida on the N12 at the Tom Jones on-ramp after finding it to have been travelling with false number plates.

Further investigation revealed that the vehicle was reported as stolen in Kempton Park earlier in the month.
They arrested the 37-year-old driver.

Rapid Response Service (RRS)
Units that form part of the RRS arrested 114 suspects across Gauteng from January 17 to 23.

The unit comprising of the Flying Squad, the K9 Unit and the Highway Patrol did routine concentrated operations, nabbing 52 people on charges of assault with the intent to cause bodily harm, possession of suspected stolen property, house burglary contravention of a protection order, theft, contravening the Immigration Act, fraud, driving under the influence of alcohol, bribery, possession of illicit cigarettes, possession of unlicensed ammunition, murder and theft out of a motor vehicle.

They recovered 34 hijacked and stolen vehicles, with 10 accompanying arrests.

Officers seized 13 unlicensed firearms, and 10 suspects face possession charges.

Further policing led to 42 arrests on charges of possession of and dealing in drugs. Heroin, dagga, cocaine, Mandrax and meth were confiscated.
