SPCA Cheer Fund falls short

Despite the shortfall, the Benoni SPCA remains committed to its mission.

The Benoni SPCA’s annual Christmas Cheer Fund did not raise as much money as in previous years, falling short of its usual target.

In 2023, the fund successfully raised R27 168. However, in 2024, donations dropped significantly, with only R9 742 collected.

The donation drive opened in early November and ran until the first week of January. The Christmas Cheer Fund plays a vital role in providing essential care for the many animals at the shelter over the festive season.

Despite the shortfall, the Benoni SPCA remains committed to its mission and continues to urge the public to support their efforts through donations and adoptions.

According to the SPCA’s fundraising organiser, Monique Quenet, the donated funds will be used to purchase a catch pole and new cages.

“Every vehicle needs to have these poles, and at the moment, we only have one. We’ll also buy new cages because every animal we pick up has to be caged to prevent further injury,” said Quenet.
