Sterling investigation by FCS officer Gladys Mashaba secures conviction
The Benoni Magistrate’s Court recently sentenced Veli Dlamini (39), who faced two counts of rape and housebreaking with intent to rape, to 15 years in prison.
The Benoni Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit has once again secured a conviction, this time for an Actonville woman who was raped while alone at home in 2022.
The Benoni Magistrate’s Court recently sentenced Veli Dlamini (39), who faced two counts of rape and housebreaking with intent to rape, to 15 years in prison.
SAPS Ekurhuleni District communication officer, Captain Nelda Sekgobela, said the 39-year-old woman, locked her doors and windows before going to sleep.
“She later woke up to find Dlamini, who is her neighbour, standing next to her bed. He then raped her before leaving the house,” Sekgobela said.
The woman reported the incident at Actonville SAPS, who assigned the case to Warrant Officer Gladys Mashaba of the Benoni FCS Unit.
“The investigating officer ensured the victim could finally breathe a sigh of relief, bringing closure to a painful chapter in her life,” Sekgobela added.
