Sea scouts battle it out on Homestead Dam

Splish-splash, scouts are playing a polo match.

Four scout troops battled it out at the East Rand Kayak Canoe Polo Club at Homestead Dam to take top honours during the Gauteng Region District Canoe Polo event, held on February 9.

Hosted by the 1st Benoni Sea Scouts, four Cub and Scout groups from 1st Kibler Park, 3rd Kensington and 1st Victory View, took to the waters in the round-robin format.

In the Cub category, 3rd Kensington took the top spot, followed closely by 1st Benoni Pirates in second place and 1st Benoni Buccaneers in third.

Third Kensington once again emerged victorious in the junior Scout category followed by 1st Benoni and 1st Victory View taking third place.

The senior Scouts from 3rd Kensington again claimed victory followed by 1st Victory View in second and 1st Benoni third.

Scouts Gauteng Regional co-ordinator for water activities, Kyle Beningfield, praised the hosts as well as the participating teams for a successful day.

“Congratulations to each and every Scout for showing sportsmanship and tenacity throughout the competition,” he said.

About 1st Benoni Sea Scouts
The 1st Benoni Sea Scouts was established in 1909 and has a rich 115 year history, fostering teamwork, leadership and service to the community.

The group boasts with ever growing troops including:
• Meerkats (ages five to seven)

• Cubs (seven to 11 years)

• Scouts (aged 12 to 18 years)

The group focusses on maritime skills, wilderness adventure and character development.
