CAXTON SCHOOLS: Day 3 off to a thrilling start @ St Dunstan’s Easter Sports Festival!

Sixty-three participating teams stand united during the opening ceremony of the festival.

Despite the threat of rain, day three of the St Dunstan’s Easter Sports Festival got off to an exhilarating start.

The horns honked in unison at 07:00 as hockey, netball and rugby teams sprinted into action.

With seating on the pavilions steadily filling up, cheers of encouragement echoed across the fields.

Ready to face their opponents with vigour and determination, is the first rugby team of Midlands Christian College.

“Our hockey teams will certainly be victorious,” said Celrico Felix, a Grade Eight learner of Christian Brothers College Boksburg (CBC).

“I have confidence that our rugby teams will make their presence known.”

Observing from the side-lines, Willem Lombaard of the Valke Rugby Referee Union said, the St Dunstan’s Easter Sports Festival has become a highlight of the school rugby calendar.

“The festival, which is in its eighth year, is always well organised and the discipline on the field is exemplary,” he said.

Silence fell across the fields just after 12:00 as Warwick Taylor, rector of the school took to the podium, welcoming more than 1 200 participants of 63 teams from 32 schools.

“As we celebrate Easter, remembering Jesus’ sacrifice and His resurrection for all of humanity, we carry this message as we engage in this festival.

“Like the word, sport has the power to unify us as we grow in humility,” he said.
