LETTER: You have aced it, Lebo!

This letter is to your sports journalist, Lebohang Pita.

I was intensely moved and saddened on reading your The Corner Flag column (BCT April 11) where you expressed that, for a while, you had “suffered creatively” in your sports reportage in the BCT; that you felt that you could not write a column that would be “interesting, engaging or informative”, and that you “ended up doubting” yourself as a sports journalist.

How ironic, your words were.

In that very column you were not only interesting, engaging and informative, but thoughtful, authentic and articulate in your views – and particularly in your support of Chelsea van Dyk and of other athletes in Benoni.

Historically, I have had no remote interest in sport, but ever since reading (I was bored one day) your sports coverage in the BCT, I have become a latter-day Benoni sports fan! I especially appreciate and admire your stylish op-eds on matters sporting (more, please of your column The Corner Flag).

Armchair critics and naysayers are inevitable – in the print media (social media, of course, is next level for trolling).

Few people take the time to commend and validate sound journalistic integrity – of which you and the BCT are fine exemplars. (“Sh*t Journalist”? Not so much…..).

Keep writing and keep shining, Lebohang!
