Stroberg named Benoni Indians junior sportsman of the year

This is his second year winning the award.

Caelum Stroberg is the Benoni Northerns Indians Ball Club junior sportsman for the second consecutive year during the club’s end-of-season prize giving.

The pitcher had a stellar season that culminated in an exceptional performance at the National Baseball Championships in Cape Town last month.

He helped Gauteng A to a 6-5 victory over Western Cape A in the final, winning the province its first title since 2019.

He started the year as part of the national U18 team that whitewashed Zimbabwe 5-0 in their five-match World Baseball and Softball Confederation (WBSC) U18 World Cup qualifier in January.

The youngster was also added to the SA Baseball elite performance squad, preparing for the WBSC U18 World Cup in Japan in September.

“We are proud of this achievement and his giving back to the club and the sport he loves. His dedication as a U10 coach and commitment to the game were evident this season,” said his mother, Liesel.

Other trophy winners:

The U10 coach, Sivan Schafer, received the club member of the year award.

The head of scorers, Sharon Schwartz, is the committee member of the year.

The umpire, David Stacey, received the juniors’ chairperson merit award.
