Mwahla win MNS Attorneys Carnival City half-marathon

He won the race in 01:10:32.

Qhubeka AC top runner Kabelo Mwahla outsprinted Maphuti Majetja on the finishing straight to win the MNS Attorneys Carnival City half-marathon on May 1.

Mwahla cut the tape four seconds ahead of Majetja to clinch the title in 01:10:32, while the Boksburg Athletic Club (BAC) runner clocked 01:10:36 for the runner-up spot. Soul City Sports Club’s Desmond Makola rounded up the podium at 06:42.

Kabelo Mwahla was part of the lead group at the start of the race.

“It’s a flat route. I’ve just recovered from injury but I tried to push. It always feels good to be in the top 10. I’m happy with my performance,” he said.

After his top 20 finish in the Totalsports Two Oceans half-marathon on April 6, the 27-year-old from Vila Lisa averaged 03:21min/km in the race around Brakpan.

Kabelo Mwahla is flanked by runner-up Maphuti Majetja (left) and third-placed Desmond Makola.

He covered 13km in 42:38, running at 03:20min/km, before completing the last 8km in 27:54 at 03:22min/km to ultimately win in 01:10:32, which was slightly outside his season’s best of 01:10:21 from the Two Oceans 21.1km race.

Mwahla will line up on Sunday (May 4) at the Colgate Race to try to defend the 15km title he won last year in a time of 50:27.
