Son sentenced to 15 years for stabbing his mother

Crystal Park SAPS Detective Sergeant Amukelani Mkari has been commended for his investigative work, which led to the conviction of 39-year-old Xolani Msimango, who fatally stabbed his 63-year-old mother in 2023.

Msimango was recently sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment by the Benoni Regional Court following the incident.

According to Crystal Park SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Lerato Mopeli, a security officer responded to a panic alarm at a residence in Crystal Park.

Upon arrival, he was met by a group of people at the gate who informed him that Msimango had stabbed his mother with a knife.

“When the officer entered the house, he found the elderly woman lying face-down in a pool of blood. Msimango was holding a child in one hand and a knife in the other,” said Mopeli.

Msimango reportedly attempted to attack the officer, who then called for police backup. Responding officers swiftly arrived and arrested Msimango at the scene.

Crystal Park SAPS praised Mkari’s commitment to securing justice for victims.
