Suspected drug lab discovered in Northmead
The owner of the property cooperated with the search.
A suspected drug lab was discovered in an outside room at a property in Fourth Avenue, Northmead, on August 18.
According to City of Ekurhuleni spokesperson Zweli Dlamini, members of the EMPD Community Liaison Unit Officers (CLU) and SAPS Infrastructure Unit responded to a tip-off, which claimed that a room on the property is being used to manufacture drugs.
“Upon arrival, officers were granted access and permission to search property, by the owner,” said Dlamini.
“The tenant of an outside room refused to grant officers access and necessary force was used to gain entry. Inside officers found implements used to manufacture suspected illicit products.
“Substances found included plastic bags containing cocaine, heroin, meth and Mandrax.”
Other items included a weighing scale, paraphernalia such as smoking pipes, cell phones, laptops, a money counting machine and an undisclosed amount of money, suspected to have been from the commission of crime.
Investigations into the matter are underway and no arrests have been made.
