The event aims to celebrate and uplift individuals and organisations making a positive impact

Neo E Bonolo founder, Elizabeth Maoeng, was recognised for her community service at the inaugural Lerato Martins Community Development Awards, held at Wattville Day Care Centre on August 9.

Maoeng won in the community initiative division for her work in caring for orphans and vulnerable children, as well as employing young people, since establishing her organisation in 2011.

“I’m proud. It shows the community of Wattville appreciates the work we do. Thank you to everyone who voted for me. This work is important to us, and we will continue making a significant impact and changing the lives of those in need,” Maoeng said.

Other award winners included Mbuso Magwaza for his contribution to sport, Irvin Ndlovu for leadership, and Mapule Tshoma ka Khumalo for innovation.

Mbuso Magwaza was recognised for his contribution to sport.

The event, hosted by the Martins Seed Foundation, was established to honour the late Lerato Martins, daughter of the foundation’s founder, Floyd, who died from cerebral palsy.

Floyd said the initiative aims to celebrate and uplift individuals and organisations making a positive impact within their communities, while also boosting morale and encouraging continued service.

Irvin Ndlovu was recognised for leadership.

“Our vision is to expand the awards beyond Wattville to other areas of Ekurhuleni to ensure that more community champions are celebrated. We extend an open invitation for individuals and organisations to participate in next year’s awards as the initiative continues to grow,” he said.

Special thanks were extended to all contributors, with a particular acknowledgement to Tru Tone, the main sponsor of the 2025 awards.
