Help local athlete travel to Cape Town

She needs about R8 500 to travel to Cape Town to compete in the SASAII Games in October.

For Nondumiso Khumalo, a learner with Down Syndrome from the SOWLE Centre, the dream of representing her school and community at the South African Sports Association for the Intellectually Impaired (SASAII) Games this October is within reach – only if she can secure the funding to get there.

More than just a competition, this is her chance to prove that courage, determination, and heart can overcome any obstacle.

Despite her challenges, Khumalo has shown remarkable perseverance, excelling in her sport and inspiring those around her with her positive spirit and dedication.

The Daveyton resident clinched two gold medals in javelin and discus at the SASAII Games in White River in 2022 and added a silver in discus at the 2023 edition.

Last year in Gqeberha, she earned three medals – two gold and one silver. She won the discus with a new personal best, added another gold in the long jump, and concluded the games with a silver medal in the shot put.

According to a letter received by the SOWLE Centre, the Gauteng Sport Association for the Intellectually Impaired (GSAII) has made no funds available to athletes who qualified to represent the province at the nationals in Cape Town from October 6 to 10.

The athlete and five others from her school sealed their place in the provincial team at the Gauteng games at Boksburg Stadium in May.

She needs approximately R8 500 to travel to Cape Town.

“Without financial assistance, my daughter’s dream may remain just that – a dream.
Any contribution, big or small, could make the difference between Khumalo watching from the sidelines and standing proudly among her peers, competing for something she has worked so hard to achieve,” said her mother, Zanele Mtshali.
