Help get indoor cricket star to the world cup
She needs to raise R62 000 to make her dream a reality.
South Africa’s ladies indoor cricket team coach Nikki de Carvalho has issued a heartfelt plea to the community to help rising Benoni Action Cricket star Aviwe Tsweu realise her dream of representing the country at the Indoor Cricket World Cup in Sri Lanka.
Tsweu, a member Gauteng East Indoor Cricket, is the first black woman to be selected for the national open women’s indoor cricket team. De Carvalho said this is not just a personal achievement for the player but also a moment of national pride.
“It’s a call for all South Africans to rally behind transformation, talent and triumph. Her journey is nothing short of inspiring.

“From a rural upbringing shaped by perseverance and community values, Aviwe has grown into a high school educator, sports coach and fast bowler mentoring girls while chasing her dream,” said De Carvalho.
With financial hurdles threatening to sideline her from the global showpiece scheduled for September 22 to October 5 in Colombo, De Carvalho believes this is a chance to rally behind a young talent destined for greatness.
“Let’s come together to make sure Aviwe stands tall in Sri Lanka, not just as a player but as a symbol of our unity, potential and pride.”
With indoor cricket in SA self-funded, Tsweu needs to raise R62 000 to make her dream a reality. The money will cover, among others, flights, accommodation, visa and travel insurance.
“This is your chance to invest in a story of transformation. One that represents hope, excellence and South African grit. Let’s show the world that South Africa backs its champions. Let’s get Aviwe to the world cup,” added De Carvalho.
The cricketer currently serves as sports co-ordinator and physical education teacher at Sacred Heart College. She also coaches cricket and netball and also manages inter-school tournaments.

Some of her achievements include golds at the opens interprovincial indoor cricket tournaments in 2024 and this year, and coaching the Central Gauteng Lions’ U15 girls’ team.
“This opportunity is the culmination of years of hard work. I’m honoured to wear the green and gold not just for myself but for every young girl who needs to see their dreams are valid,” said Tsweu.
