Police clamp down on rising crime in Daveyton
During the intensified operation, 67 suspects were arrested for various serious offences, including contact and property-related crimes, violations of the Immigration Act, and possession of drugs.
Contact crimes, attempted murder, vehicle theft, arson, and house robberies are on the rise in Daveyton.
This was revealed by Major General Anna Sithole during a recent Operation Shanela conducted in the area. Sithole said that police are intensifying operations in and around Daveyton to curb the increase in these serious offences.
The acting station commander of Daveyton SAPS, Colonel Poppy Maleka, noted that some of the identified crime hotspots fall within Sector Four, which includes areas such as the Basotho section.

Daveyton CPF chairperson Ramoitheki Madikgetla expressed concern over the growing number of illegal liquor outlets and unregistered churches operating on school premises and in open fields. “These issues contribute to disorder and criminal activity in our community,” he said.
During the intensified operation, 67 suspects were arrested for various serious offences, including contact and property-related crimes, violations of the Immigration Act, and possession of drugs.
At a roadblock held along Kingsway Road near DM Mthimunye Street, the main entrance to Daveyton, vehicles were stopped and searched. Officers issued 59 traffic fines to motorists, totalling R48 050.

While some law enforcement members were deployed to the roadblock, Social Crime Prevention officers and other stakeholders visited local schools, confiscating vapes and other prohibited items from learners.
In addition, a community imbizo was held in Gabon to engage residents and address crime-related challenges affecting the area.
Sithole urged the community to continue working with the police to ensure that Daveyton becomes a safer environment for all.
