EAC’s Nzuza victorious at the Thembisa Mile
She won the race in 05:59.
East Athletic Club (EAC) middle-distance runner Dineo Nzuza clinched the U10 girls’ mile title at the Thembisa Mile, held at Olifantsfontein Sports Ground on October 26.
The athlete joined thousands others as she displayed their talent in the event, organised by Donald Mathipa and known as the running party, held to raise funds for Thembisa AC.
Nzuza clocked 05:59 for her victory in the 1.6km race, crossing the line 13 seconds ahead of runner-up Minenhle Magwaza. Puseletso Senosha rounded off the top three in 06:16 for the bronze.
The EAC’s Katlego Dlamini, a bronze medallist in the U8 boys’ 1km at the ASA cross-country championships in September, finished fourth in the U10 boys’ mile in 05:57.
The race was won by Ivory Park AC’s Mpho in 04:19. Njabulo Hlatshwayo finished second in 04:25, while bronze medallist Evan Lourens of Hoërskool Menlo Park was a second behind Hlatshwayo.
In the U13 girls’ race, Mahlatse Mamonyane fell six seconds off the top three after clocking 05:39 for fourth place. She was beaten by Miane de Clercq (05:24), Hailey Evans (05:30) and Emma de Clercq (05:33).
Mamonyane’s teammate, Lesedi Dhladhla, finished eighth in 05:55, while Tumishang Seroka of Benoni Northerns Athletic Club took fifth in 05:48.
Mabitsela Mashamaite, also of EAC, was fifth in 05:13 in the U13 boys’ mile. The event was won by Dream Team Development AC’s Kananelo Makole in 04:45, with Mamepe Striders’ Bohang Qhoaisa second in 04:47. Katlehong AC’s Indiphile Myeki completed the top three in 05:02.
Daveyton Hearts’ Thokozani Nkosi was sixth in 04:35 in the junior boys’ mile.
Olympian Elroy Gelant won the men’s 10km in 29:13, while Karabo Mailula defended her women’s title in 34:05.
Karabo More won the elite women’s mile in 04:31, while Abednico Choba took the men’s race in 04:03.
