All systems go for ‘neigh-boo-hood’ Halloween celebration

Calling witches, ghouls and goblins to be part of this spine-chilling event.

Ghoulish laughter can be heard throughout Western Extension, as business and residents prepare to once again host Trick or Treat on Russel Street this evening (November 1).

Following a three-year hiatus, the popular Halloween walk is back and promises to be a frighteningly fabulous family event.

Drawing on the mystical allure of this historic suburb, revellers can look forward to completing a 2.5km ‘spook-tacular’ loop, past heritage houses that have stood the test of time, sheltered under the canopies of trees that have been keeping a watchful eye over residents.

With the promise of a bounty of treats available at the various trick or treat collection points, manned by residents and businesses, including Cleo’s Restaurant, Pam Golding, Guardians and Moonas, participants will have the opportunity to vote for the best decorated stand.

The stand with the most goosebump-inducing votes will win R500.

Entry to the event is free, although donations of dog and cat food in aid of the Benoni SPCA and The Murphy Cat Project are welcome.

The festivities will kick off at 17:00 from Carlin House, at 17 Russel Street. Participants will complete a 2.5km loop through Elston Avenue, Bright Street and Mayor Avenue, concluding at the newly renovated, family-friendly Big G’s Quarterdeck restaurant, where the best-dressed competition will take place.

Members of the Benoni CPF and AfriForum Benoni will be on hand to ensure participants stay on course and remain safe.
