Unclaimed R2.2m PowerBall Plus ticket bought in Daveyton set to expire

Time is running out for a lucky PowerBall Plus player in Daveyton who may be sitting on a life-changing fortune.

Residents of Daveyton and surrounding areas are urged to double-check their tickets from the November 12, 2024, PowerBall Plus draw, as a winning ticket worth R2.2m purchased at a retailer in Mayfield Square remains unclaimed.

The ticket is set to expire on November 12, 2025, exactly one year after the draw. According to ITHUBA, the official operator of the National Lottery, the winner has not yet come forward.

“If they fail to claim the prize before the deadline, the funds will be transferred to the National Lotteries Distribution Trust Fund (NLDTF), which supports charitable causes and community upliftment projects across South Africa,” said ITHUBA CEO Charmaine Mabuza.

“Someone out there is sitting on a R2.2m fortune. We would love to celebrate this win with them before it is too late.”

ITHUBA revealed that as of September 30, more than R157m in lottery winnings across the country remain unclaimed, ranging from smaller payouts to million-rand jackpots. The operator noted that many players check only for the jackpot and overlook other winning divisions.

“Very often, when people realise they did not win the jackpot, as they do not bother checking if their ticket won anything. We encourage all in-store ticket holders to check all their tickets in-store, as they might have won from other divisions,” Mabuza explained.

Those who play through banking or digital platforms are automatically notified of winnings, and amounts below R250 000 are paid directly into their accounts.

High-tier winners receive additional support from ITHUBA, including trauma counselling and independent financial advice to guide them through their new financial journey.
