Dinoto Technical deputy principal shot

The police have confirmed that a case of attempted murder has been opened, and investigations are ongoing.

The deputy principal of Dinoto Technical Secondary School in Daveyton was reportedly shot this morning, November 7, as he entered the school premises.

According to the Gauteng Department of Education, the deputy principal sustained injuries during the incident and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where he is currently receiving medical care.

GDE spokesperson Steve Mabona confirmed that psychosocial support teams, including officials from the Ekurhuleni North District, have been dispatched to the school to provide counselling and support to educators, learners, and staff who may have been traumatised by the incident.

“Despite this unfortunate event, the school has continued with the ongoing matric examinations under close monitoring to ensure minimal disruption and to maintain a safe environment for all learners,” Mabona said.

Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane expressed shock at the incident, condemning the attack in the strongest terms.

“Schools are meant to be safe spaces for learners and educators. We wish the deputy principal a full and speedy recovery and we urge law enforcement authorities to ensure that those responsible are swiftly brought to justice.”
