Benoni Spurs shine with unbeaten double and historic first female team
It was a season to remember for Benoni Spurs FC as their U8 League 1 side went unbeaten to claim both the league and cup titles, while the club fielded its first-ever female team.
The Benoni Spurs Football Club capped off a remarkable Eastern Local Football Association (ELFA) season marked by triumph and progress.
The club’s U8 League One side dominated their division, completing an unbeaten campaign to lift both the league and cup title – a rare double that underscored the Spurs’ youth setup.
Adding to this milestone-filled season, Benoni Spurs proudly introduced its first-ever female side, signalling a bold step towards inclusivity and growth.

“Their success has brought immense pride to the club and the wider Benoni community, reflecting the hard work and dedication of both players and coaches,” said the club’s Zain Shah.
The debut of the girls’ team, alongside the U8s stellar achievements, highlighted a season of unity, development and ambition within the club’s ranks.

“This pioneering step marked a new era for girls’ football in the community. The initiative has already sparked growing interest among young female players, demonstrating the club’s commitment to inclusivity and equal opportunity.
“One parent even remarked that seeing the girls play with such confidence and joy, wearing the Spurs badge, is something truly special. This gives our daughters the same dreams our sons have had for years,” added Shah.
The club further celebrated hosting a successful tournament, held from October 17 to 19, which attracted teams from the region, Lenasia and Pretoria.
“The success of the event extended beyond football. It showcased the organisational strength and hospitality that have become hallmarks of Benoni Spurs FC. Visiting teams and spectators alike praised the event’s structure, safety, and spirit, calling it one of the most enjoyable tournaments of the youth football calendar.”
Looking ahead, Shah said the club wants to establish itself as the “heartbeat of the community” while also building on the success of the past ELFA season.
