Luizinho receives SA kids Golf Order of Merit award

He played in 19 tournaments and collected the most points which earned him the SA Kids Golf Order of Merit award.

Young golfer Hugo Luizinho (6) capped off a stellar season by clinching the prestigious Order of Merit in his age group at the SA Kids Golf Association awards.

The rising star’s consistency and composure across a busy calendar saw him rise above his peers to finish as the top points scorer in the national circuit.

Competing in 19 tournaments throughout the season, Luizinho showcased remarkable dedication and skill, collecting the most points overall, while also securing second place in strokeplay standings.

This six-year-old’s performances underline his growing reputation as one of the community’s brightest golf talents and a player to watch in the years ahead.

“It means a lot. This season taught me how to stay calm and focus on one shot and one hole at a time. I’m proud of how much I’ve improved and how consistent I’ve been throughout the season,” he said.

Giving a summary of his season, the golfer said he had enjoyed himself throughout, despite facing challenges in some tournaments.

“This season was so much fun. Some tournaments were quite hard. I felt nervous, but as I kept playing, I became more confident. One of my favourite moments was at Ruimsig. I hit my 3-wood on the ninth hole from about 100m and left it one meter from the pin. I also loved meeting new friends and seeing them at every event.”

Luizinho added he was proud of his runner-up spot in strokeplay.

“Even though it wasn’t first, I’m really proud of being second. It shows that I played well the whole season and stayed consistent. It also makes me want to work even harder next year, especially on my short game.”

The youngster has set his sights on a professional career and rubbing shoulders with some of golf’s biggest names.

“I love golf and I want to play it forever. My dream is to play on TV one day and make it to the Ryder Cup. I want to play with my heroes like Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm and Tommy Fleetwood. That would be amazing.”
