Crime in Brief
Operations are being intensified in the lead up to the festive season.
The Benoni Flying Squad (BFS), the SAPS Water Police and Diving Services (WPDS) and the Police Emergency Services (PES) made these arrests and recoveries between November 11and 14.
Contravening the Immigration Act
Two men were arrested in Etwatwa for being in SA illegally.
Firearm recovered
Acting on information, a BFS officer arrested a man in Thembisa on November 13, found with a 9mm pistol with the serial numbers filed off.
A second suspect was arrested when officers found a signal jammer on him.
Officers handed both men over to the Thembisa SAPS.
Drug possession
A sting operation saw R80 000 worth of dagga confiscated on the R23, Tsakane, on November 14 after receiving information that a Hilux was transporting illicit substances. BFS officers tracked it and brought it to a stop. A search revealed four large bags of dagga, so officers arrested the driver.
Officers added a charge of bribery when the man offered them R6 000 for his release.

The PES
The PES, including the flying squad, K9 units and Highway Patrol, arrested 62 people across Gauteng.
The operation resulted in:
• 37 arrests for serious crimes, including common assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, possessing stolen property, malicious property damage, house robbery, theft, possession of unwrought precious metal, rape, fraud, contempt of court, contravening the Immigration Act and armed robbery;
• the recovery of 36 hijacked and stolen vehicles, with seven arrests for possessing these vehicles;
• one arrest for possessing unlicensed firearms. Officers seized two guns;
• 23 arrests for possessing drugs with the intent to sell. Drugs recovered included heroin, dagga, cocaine, Mandrax and meth.
The WPDS
The SAPS WPDS recovered three bodies between November 11 and 13.
Alrode
The badly decomposed body of a man in his 40s was recovered from a perennial river near the R554. The victim appears to have been murdered.
Tshwane
WPDS officers and the K9 Search and Rescue Unit recovered a badly decomposed body floating next to the banks of the Hennops River on a plot in Attridgeville.
Before departing, officers were approached by employees at the Hennops walking trail, claiming that a body was stuck in a pipe under a bridge on the R511.
Evidence indicates that the man was murdered.
