Mayfield Square PowerBall Plus winner claims R2.2m prize
According to ITHUBA, the national lottery operator, the claimant came forward just before the deadline.
The winner of the R2.2m PowerBall Plus jackpot, purchased at a retailer in Mayfield Square, has claimed their prize nearly a year after the winning draw.
The ticket, from the November 12 draw, was due to expire on November 12.
According to ITHUBA, the national lottery operator, the claimant came forward just before the deadline, preventing the winnings from being forfeited.
ITHUBA confirmed the last-minute claim on November 14 through its SA Lottery page on X (formerly Twitter), posting:
“Great news, Mzansi! The #POWERBALLPLUS jackpot ticket worth R2 284 810 from the November 12, 2024, draw has been CLAIMED just in time! The winning ticket, purchased in Mayfield Square, Johannesburg, Gauteng, was collected before it expired.”
When the Benoni City Times contacted ITHUBA for further information, including whether the winner was male or female and why they waited a full year to collect their winnings, spokespersons said the individual did not consent to any publicity and opted to remain anonymous to protect their identity.
