Brentwood Park resident dedicates her birthday to charity
“Whether we give a little or a lot we have the ability to keep charity organisations afloat.”
In celebration of her 80th birthday on November 28, Maretha Taylor used the opportunity to give to others.
As friends, family, and loved ones prepared to raise a glass in honour of the soft-hearted Brentwood Park resident, she had one request: she did not want to be showered with gifts, instead she wanted money.
“As an animal lover, my mom is a loyal supporter of The Animal Guardians (TAG),” said Laetitia Zillen, Maretha’s daughter.
“Whether it is donations towards the charity shop, food for the animals or blankets, my mom is always delivering something to the team. True to her nature, she wanted this auspicious birthday celebration to make a difference in the lives of others.”
With the festivities wrapped up, the proud Benonian counted her bounty and dashed off to TAG, armed with an envelope containing R4 400.
“The smallest act of kindness can make the world of difference to local charity organisations,” said Maretha.
“You do not have to give much, but if we all give a little, these organisations can continue doing the wonderful work they do.
“We all have the ability to bring kindness into the world.”
Founder of the Cloverdene-based animal welfare organisation, Annie Jungmann, thanked Maretha for her generous donation.
“Your continued support is invaluable and this donation speaks of the person that you are,” she said.
