BAC’s O’Connor continues form

She finished the 42.2km in 03:35:35 for fourth place in the women’s 40 to 49 category.

Fresh off her victory in the women’s 15km at the Springs Striders Road Race, Brigitte O’Connor continued her rich vein of form by securing a top-four finish in the same category at the Johnson Crane Marathon on January 25.

The Boksburg Athletic Club (BAC) athlete stopped the clock at 03:35:35 for fourth place in the women’s 40 to 49 category. She crossed the line 15th overall in the women’s marathon.

The club’s Isaac Mokgola produced an impressive performance after finishing the veteran men’s marathon under three hours. The Thembisa resident clocked 02:52:04 for eighth place in the race.

Tumelo Motlagale won the men’s marathon in 02:21:24, beating Tonny Skink, who clocked 02:23:01 for second place. Puseletso Mofokeng completed the top three in 02:23:43.


Hilton Hosmer.

Kenyan Gladys Jepchirchir clinched the women’s title in 02:58:49. Nedbank’s Adele Broodryk finished second in 02:59:20, while Omuhle Kubheka was third in 02:59:58.

Susan Laybourn led the BAC charge in the half-marathon. She completed the women’s masters’ race in 01:59:32.


Isaac Mokgola.

Hilton Hosmer finished eighth in the men’s masters (50-59) in a time of 01:34:02. Brian Walstroom clocked 01:46:14 to also finish eighth in the men’s grandmasters race.

Olympian Stephen Mokoka clinched the men’s half-marathon in 01:07:17, with Lesetja Papo second in 01:07:22. Sboniso Sikhakhane rounded off the podium 10 seconds adrift.

Meyerton AC’s 19-year-old Minki Lotter won the women’s race in 01:26:31. Benonian Kaitlyn Bubb was second in 01:26:57, and Nedbank athlete Shanice Peens clinched the last podium place a second after Bubb.
