Crime in Brief

Suspects will be appearing in various courts across the province.

From January 30 to February 8, the Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) and Police Emergency Services (PES) made 87 arrests:

Possession of drugs
Eight suspects were arrested by BFS officers on charges of possession of drugs, in Emaphpheni, Kaalfontein Extension, Ivory Park, Thembisa and the Kempton Park CBD.
Meth, Mandrax, cocaine and heroin valued at an estimated at R2 500 was recovered.

Vehicles recovered
• A white BMW reported hijacked in Birch Acres, Kempton Park, was recovered in Thembisa.
• An interlink truck trailer reported hijacked in Sundra was recovered in Mackenzie Park.

PES

From January 30 to February 5, the Police Emergency Services (PES), including the Flying Squad, K9 Units and Highway Patrol, arrested 76 suspects across Gauteng.
Gauteng:

• Thirty-nine arrests for serious crimes including assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, possession of suspected stolen property, pointing of a firearm, intimidation, murder, tampering with essential infrastructure, driving under the influence of alcohol, malicious damage to property, theft, housebreaking, fraud, reckless and negligent driving and contravention of the immigration act.

• Recovery of 35 hijacked and stolen vehicles. Two arrests were made on charges of being in possession of these vehicles.

• Eight suspects were arrested for being in possession of unlicensed firearms. Six weapons were seized

• Twenty-seven suspects were arrested for possession of drugs with the intent to sell. Drugs recovered included heroin, dagga, meth, cocaine and Mandrax.
