Crime in Brief
The suspects will appear in magistrates’ courts across the province.
The Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) and the Police Emergency Services (PES) made 112 arrests from February 9 to 14.
Possession of drugs
Three people were arrested on drug-related offences. One arrested in Clayville faces charges of possession of drugs with the intent to sell after being found with seven bags of dagga valued at about R10 000. Other arrests in Kempton Park and Brakpan uncovered meth and heroin.
Possession of suspected stolen goods
Three people in a Toyota Etios were arrested on the N12 near Sundra on February 11. Patrolling BFS officers stopped them and found six 1.8kg tins of baby formula. They were arrested after producing a fraudulent invoice for the products.
Possession of scheduled medication
During routine patrols in Actonville on February 14, BFS officers stopped and searched a man acting erratically. They found 317 schedule-five scripted tablets, arrested him and detained him at the Actonville SAPS.
Vehicle recovery
A Renault Kwid was recovered on the corner of Top and Atlas roads, Boksburg. It was reported hijacked in a Kempton Park case.
Police Emergency Services (PES)
From February 6 to 12, the PES, the Flying Squad, K9 units and Highway Patrol arrested 105 people across Gauteng.
The operation resulted in:
• 46 arrests for serious crimes, including assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, possessing suspected stolen property, robbery, pointing a firearm, crimen injuria, intimidation, murder, illegal possession of unwrought precious metal, malicious damage to property, theft, burglary, rape, attempted murder, tampering with essential infrastructure, possession of a dangerous weapon and contravening a protection order and the Immigration Act.
• The recovery of 35 hijacked and stolen vehicles. Seven people were arrested for having these vehicles.
• Seven people were arrested for possessing unlicensed firearms, and six weapons were seized.
• 45 people were arrested for possessing drugs with the intent to sell. The drugs recovered included heroin, dagga, meth, cocaine and Mandrax.
SAPS Water Police and Diving Services (WPDS)
Teams from the Gauteng WPDS responded to incidents on February 10 and 11:
• Natalspruit River, Zonkizizwe
The decomposed body of a man was recovered from contaminated water.
• Sebokeng
Officers responded to an alleged drowning in a quarry. Reports indicated that a nine-year-old was swimming with two friends when she drowned. Her body was recovered at a depth of 2m near the area identified as where the drowning took place.
