WATCH: Big walk a boost to NPO’s clean-up efforts

“Wellness starts by planting a single seed of positivity and watching it take root in every aspect of your life.”

With a flutter of green balloons in hand, young and old looped around the Bunny Park on March 1 to participate in the second annual Big Walk hosted by World of Wellness (WoW).

Families, friends and running groups left their footprints in the dew-covered grass surrounding the popular park, all with the aim of raising funds for Benoni’s ‘big green cleaning machine,’ Clean Projects.

“Since its establishment in 2023, Clean Projects has proven how even the smallest, yet sustainable clean-up initiative can transform an entire community,” said host and owner of WoW, Sandor Dowling.

“Our open spaces have not only been transformed into beautiful areas that are tidy and inviting, but they have also spurred on a collective initiative by the community and local businesses to look beyond their gates and transform the areas surrounding their properties.

“Through the fun walk, we are tipping our hats to Clean Projects, recognising their efforts and in turn raising funds to enable them to continue their work while creating employment opportunities.”

Clad in her customary green shirt, director of Clean Projects Alison Etherington said that what started as an initiative to rejuvenate an intersection has morphed into a fledgling NPO that extends far beyond the organisation’s reach with its brush cutters.

“The community’s ongoing support is overwhelming,” she said.

“Whether it is a fundraiser, clean-up or just a passing wave to our teams as they conduct their weekly duties, this all contributes to our efforts to beautify our beloved city. It’s a true testament to Benoni’s community spirit.”
