SPCA becomes a green oasis
“Greening the property will enhance the quality of care while adding to our efforts to promote environmental mindfulness.”
The planting of 37 indigenous trees is set to transform the Benoni SPCA into a green oasis.
Through the generous donation from Selvan Moodley of Selvan Trees and the Sri Sathya Sai Global Council South Africa’s Envirocare wing, a truck laden with saplings rolled into Klein Street, Lakefield, on May 19, with willing hands ready to plant.
SPCA’s operations manager, Beverley Morkel, said that the donations go beyond simply greening the animal welfare society’s property.
“Trees were planted within kennel blocks, which once established will offer welcome shade to our furry residents while aiding temperature regulation within the kennels,” she said.
“During the rainy season, the trees will further shelter the kennels’ interior, preventing it from being drenched.”
The society extended its gratitude to the donors, saying that a donation such as this further contributes to the care of the city’s lost, abandoned, neglected and abused animals.
With winter, the chill already biting at our heels, the Benoni SPCA is urgently appealing for blanket donations to keep the animals in their care snug and warm.
Donations can be delivered to 3 Klein Street or for more information call 011 894 2814.
