Benoni, Boksburg must prepare for water cuts from July 17 to 19

CoE spokesperson Zweli Dlamini advised residents to store enough water for essential household needs, such as drinking, cooking and sanitation.

Residents and businesses in Boksburg and Benoni are encouraged to prepare for possible water supply interruptions when Rand Water undertakes the second phase of its planned infrastructure maintenance from July 17 to 19

Affected areas
Boksburg:
Elspark, Sunward Park, Spruitview and Leondale are expected to be affected by reduced pumping into the Zwartkopjes system.

Residents may experience low water pressure or water outages, with the system expected to take up to two days to recover.

Other parts of Boksburg include Vosloorus, Dawn Park, Windmill Park, Villa Liza and Mapleton Agricultural Holdings, which fall under the Mapleton system where no pumping will take place during the maintenance period.

Benoni
Wattville, Actonville, Benoni CBD, Mackenzie Park, Apex, Lakefield, Westdene, parts of Morehill, Farrarmere, Northmead, Brentwood Park, Goedeburg, Rynfield, Rynfield Agricultural Holdings and Ebotse Estate, where reduced pumping may result in low water pressure or no water.

Additional areas, including Crystal Park, Cloverdene, Chief Albert Luthuli, parts of Morehill, Daveyton, Mayfield, and Etwatwa, may also experience water interruptions due to the shutdown of the Mapleton system.

CoE spokesperson Zweli Dlamini advised residents to store enough water for essential household needs, such as drinking, cooking and sanitation.

Businesses and institutions are encouraged to ensure they have sufficient on-site water storage to minimise disruptions.

“Alternative water supply will be provided through stationary water tanks and roaming water tankers in affected communities. Residents are encouraged to follow the City of Ekurhuleni’s official communication platforms for updates on water tanker locations and progress with the maintenance work.”

The municipality has cautioned that while maintenance is expected to be completed by July 19, water supply restoration will be gradual as reservoirs and pipelines refill, with some high-lying areas potentially taking longer to return to normal.
