“My husband heard the crash, followed by a commotion. We just assumed the tree had finally fallen.”
These were the words of a Wilge Road, Farrarmere, resident after a tree branch fell on a woman in the street outside their property.

“All we heard was her pleading for help, as visitors of Homestead Dam rushed to her aid.”

The Benoni City Times earlier reported that the incident occurred yesterday (July 29); however, the resident, who wished to remain anonymous, confirmed that it happened on July 28 at 17:00.

“When we moved into our home six years ago, the dead tree stump had already been trimmed down. It is infested with termites,” she said.

“We expected it to fall, but always thought it would crash into a property. Nothing prepared us for what happened.”

The resident said that she is shocked that the branch detached from the stump just as an unsuspecting person was walking or running past.

“I really hope she will enjoy a full recovery. No one expects something like this,” she said.

Further information indicated that the victim was transported to a local hospital for medical care.

Netcare Linmed confirmed that she is not under the facility’s care, while Life The Glynnwood declined comment, in line with the POPIA Act.
