Jurie Snyman shines with bat and ball to lead WSB Eastern Storm to first victory
This was World Sports Betting Eastern storm's first victory in the YesPlay ProCup.
All-rounder Jurie Snyman produced a spectacular dual performance with both bat and ball as the World Sports Betting (WSB) Eastern Storm overwhelmed Flexbrand Knights by 12 runs at the Mangaung Oval on October 14.
Snyman’s 95 off 45 balls helped take the visitors to a competitive 186/6 after they lost the momentum with the early exits of Kabelo Sekhukhune, Ronan Hermann and Captain Chris Britz.
Right arm off-spinner spinner Snyman then took a fine 4/16 in four overs, including catching and bowling Emmanuel Motswiri and Tiaan van Vuuren with successive balls of the 11th over.
The Knights were restricted to 168/8, falling 12 runs shy of their target, to hand Eastern Storm its first win in the Yesplay Pro20 Cup.
The hosts started their pursuit of 187 on the back foot after losing Gerrit Snyman (3), caught behind by Hermann off Chad Classen, in the second over.
Opener Jonathan Bird kept the scoreboard ticking but couldn’t find partners as they fell like dominoes around him, with Wian Ruthven (8), Ruan Haasbroek (9), Gihahn Cloete (8) all falling for single digits, while Motswiri and Van Vuuren fell for golden ducks.
Bird was eventually stumped by Hermann off Snyman in the 15th over, dismissed for a hard-fought 58 off 37, strutted with three boundaries and three sixes.

Malusi Siboto and captain Dane Piedt then put on some fight late on with 43 for the eighth wicket, before Siboto edged Amaan Khan to Hermann for 36 off 39, while Piedt ended unbeaten on 22.
Snyman was the peak of the Eastern Storm bowlers with four wickets, while Classen Thabiso Lekhoana and Classen took a wicket each.
Eastern Storm, meanwhile, started the match positively with Sekhukhune and Hermann sharing 37 for the first wicket before Hermann was trapped in front by Mbongiseni Mhlanga in the fourth over.
Sekhukhune then shared 31 with Britz before being dismissed by Gerrit Snyman for 38 off 23, which included seven fours and a six, bringing in Snyman to the crease.
Britz struggled to nine off 13 balls and later followed Sekhukhune to the shed after being bowled by Mhlanga. Snyman and Dewan Marais steadied the ship with a 51 run fourth-wicket partnership, with Snyman the aggressor, before Marais was dismissed by Siboto.
Snyman continued his onslaught, scoring 43 runs in his 49-run fifth-wicket partnership with Leander Lubbe (6). Lubbe was dismissed by Van Vuuren and five balls later, Snyman followed for a brilliant 95 off 45, which included eight sixes and five boundaries at a strike rate of 211.11.
Mhlanga and Siboto took two wickets each for the Knights.
WSB Eastern Storm will take on Kaneez Tuskers at 18:00 at WSB Willowmoore Park on October 22.
