Police intercept bakkies carrying dagga
Investigations into the origin of the dagga and its intended end destination are underway.
Following a trend of suspected drug dealers moving large quantities of dagga around Benoni in bakkies, the Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) put four suspects in cuffs over the weekend.
On August 27 and 28, officers intercepted two Toyota Hilux bakkies carrying sealed loads of dagga.
“The first arrest came after officers noticed two suspicious-looking men travelling in a grey bakkie,” said Warrant Officer Grant Giblin, BFS spokesperson.
“The vehicle was stopped at the Snake Road off-ramp. A search led to the discovery of sealed bags containing dagga with an estimated street value of R50 000.”
On August 28, the same patrolling officers once again identified two suspicious-looking men driving on the N12 towards Johannesburg, this time travelling in a white Toyota Hilux.
“The officers stopped the bakkie at the Putfontein off-ramp and found similarly packaged dagga, with an estimated street value of R60 000 in the back,” said Giblin.
In both cases, the suspects were arrested, the dagga confiscated and their vehicles impounded.
