LETTER: Thank you for supporting Kids Haven

The team of Kids Haven writes:
We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who helped us through the chaos of the hailstorm on November 10, as well as the resulting five-day power outage.

The weather and cable theft left us with seriously damaged roofs and a frantic shuffle of deep freezes and fridges to preserve our food supplies.

What followed was a month-long marathon of insurance-related discussions until finally, we received confirmation that the insurer would cover repairs on the roofs of two of the three village houses, as well as interior ceiling repairs and repainting.

Before the finalisation of the insurance process, the organisation did some repairs on Rainbow House to make it inhabitable for the little people who live there.

We would like to thank everyone who contributed to our plight.

We are proud of our children that weathered this storm with us, adapting to the challenges while preparing for exams, concerts and prizegivings.

Our children are examples of living in the moment and enjoying every activity.

Their enthusiasm ensured that our staff took a break from worrying.

Ending off the year, it gives us great pleasure to announce that 19 children have been able to leave the facility permanently and rejoin their families or extended families.

We are further looking forward to extending our Teen Hub Model to create a youth hub, which will be a place for young adults to gather to access online resources, receive mentorship and coaching and attend skills training.

We aim to create a space where the youth can get what they need to secure decent jobs. (Letter shortened)
