Benoni Welfare staff member celebrates 30 years of service
Ethel Mazibuko plans to work for the GBCW for another 10 years.
Ethel Mazibuko, better known as ‘Ethy’ to her friends and colleagues at the Greater Benoni Child Welfare (GBCW), recently celebrated 30 years of service in the organisation.
To celebrate this milestone, her colleagues organised a surprise party for her on March 10 at the GBCW offices in Northmead.
Mazibuko, the longest-serving member of the organisation, started working at Benoni Child Welfare in 1993 as an auxiliary nurse, and she still works as one.

At her party, the Daveyton resident was hailed as an amazing and inspirational woman committed and dedicated to her job. Her colleagues said she still makes a difference in the lives of people she helps during house visits, and she knows the organisation like the back of her hand.
One speaker, Ayanda Zwane, said ‘mama Ethy’ was loyal to the GBCW and the heart of the organisation.
The director of the GBCW, Vanessa Carelse, said, “When I started working at the welfare as a social worker four years ago, Ethel was very friendly to me. She gave me a warm welcome, and whenever I needed anything, she would assist.”

Staff showered Mazibuko with gifts as signs of appreciation for her dedication to the GBCW.
They gifted her a framed picture of herself, a huge glass watch with her name engraved in the middle, and a certificate.
The 57-year-old was overwhelmed with gratitude.

Speaking to the City Times, the lady of the moment said she loves working with the community, hence why she’s been with the organisation for years.
“The working environment is good. Over the years, there have been many changes in the organisation, including the introduction of a satellite office in Daveyton,” said Mazibuko.
Mazibuko said she plans to work for the GBCW for another 10 years, adding that the organisation feels like her second home.
