Benonian granted Phd in the Netherlands
He is an assistant professor in the faculty of health, medicine and life sciences.
Tom Newby School and St Dunstan’s College alumni Gavin van der Nest was conferred a PhD in Statistics from the Maastricht University in the The Netherlands.
Van der Nest successfully defended his thesis, which is titled Hidden Depths – Robustness of modelling approaches for uncovering latent classes of longitudinal data, in the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences on December 21.
According to the university’s website, the thesis investigated the performance of a class of statistical models, known as finite mixture models, in uncovering hidden classes of subjects following distinct patterns of development.
Van der Nest is an assistant professor at the university and holds an MSc in Economics from the University of Edinburgh and a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) from the University of Pretoria.
