Egg-citement for William Hills learners

The organisation donated 800 Easter eggs to the learners of William Hills Secondary School.

The NPO Families in Need recently collected 800 Easter eggs from generous community members for learners at William Hills Secondary School.

Mrs SA semi-finalist Caitlin Chetty was part of the group that visited the school on April 13 for the handover.

Founder of the organisation Hayley Fekete Farah said: “Our aim for the Easter egg drive was to put a smile on the learners’ faces and to bring hope.

“We wanted to remind them that there are people who care.”

Farah said they decided to reach out to the learners at William Hills Secondary because many of them are from disadvantaged backgrounds.

She added that at the start of the Easter egg drive, they only received four boxes of eggs, but that didn’t dampen their spirits to reach their goal of collecting a minimum of 800 eggs. And they did, with the help of St Columba’s School, Round Table Golden East 181, the Manger Care Centre and Craig View Veterinary Clinic.

At the handover, Chetty told learners that education is the most powerful tool a person can use to overcome life’s challenges.

“Education is not just about acquiring knowledge but applying it practically in the real world and with excellence.

“Excellence promotes innovation, creativity and originality, which are crucial for success in this ever-evolving world,” said Chetty.

She encouraged the learners to do their best and know that their best is enough.

Learner Kaelan Augustine expressed gratitude for the donation.

”It is nice that we have organisations such as Families in Need to care for us. We can smile because of them,“ he said.
