#Comrades2023: BNAC president seeks triple green number

A total of 163 runners will represent the club in this year's Comrades Marathon.

The Benoni Northerns Athletic Club (BNAC) president Jan Jordaan will make history as the club’s first runner to compete in 30 Comrades Marathons in the cheese and tomato colours of the club when he lines up for this year’s race on June 11.

Although David Jacobs achieved his triple number in the BNAC colours last year, he achieved some of his Comrades medals at a different club.

Jordaan is among the 163 runners the BNAC is sending down to KZN to take part in the down-run between Pietermaritzburg and Durban.

Among the contingent, there are 31 novices, 31 back-to-back athletes and four will be going for their green numbers.

Samuel Modise will compete for the ninth time and Themba Makhubela for the first time in the Comrades Marathon.

During the club’s chairperson’s breakfast send-off ceremony at Birchwood Hotel and OR Tambo Conference Centre on June 4, the club captain, Mark Dingle, congratulated the team for taking part in the ultimate human race.

Dingle also motivated the first-timers to do well and gave special thanks to supporters.

“Everyone knows that when you are preparing for the Comrades Marathon, you are preparing for something monumental. I wish you all well,” said Dingle.

BNAC chairperson John Eigelaar said that with over 160 entries, this makes them one of the top three clubs in the country.

Jacquie Mcllduff will be going for a green number at the Comrades Marathon.

“It is a privilege as an athlete to be part of the Comrades Marathon,” said Eigelaar.
