Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) members recovered a Tata truck, reportedly hijacked, and arrested three in connection with the incident.
On June 7, the officers received information from a logistics company that a truck was hijacked. It was transporting cigarettes.
“Investigations led members to Kopi Matebang Street, Etwatwa, where two suspects were arrested after being found in possession of 12 boxes of the stolen products,” said Warrant Officer Grant Giblin, the BFS spokesperson.
“The suspects helped officers by leading them to a home in Barcelona, where the alleged robbery mastermind was arrested.
“Acting on information from the suspects, the hijacked truck and another carrying the remaining tobacco products were recovered on a plot next to the R555, Delmas.”
Further successes from June 5 to 11 include:
Possession of drugs
• On June 7 at 08:20, while conducting a vehicle checkpoint at the N12 Daveyton off-ramp, BFS members found five large bags of dagga transported in a silver Hyundai IX35.
They arrested the two occupants and confiscated the dagga, valued at about R15 000.
“At the Daveyton Police Station, the officers were approached by a man claiming to be the suspects’ brother,” said Giblin.
“He offered the members R2 000 in exchange for their release. He was also arrested and charged with bribery.”
• Six suspects were arrested in separate incidents on Station Road and Voortrekker Street, Brakpan, Ivory Park Ext 2 and 6, Pretoria Road, Northmead and Gabone informal settlement, Daveyton, for being in possession of drugs.
The police recovered crystal meth, heroin, dagga, cocaine and Mandrax.
