Members of the Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) and the Gauteng Rapid Response Services (RRS) were again on the prowl to bring criminals to book.
From July 18 to 23, the BFS officers brought eight suspects to book, while the RS members nabbed 126 suspects across the province between July 14 and 20.
They made these arrests:
Possession of drugs
• On July 22, BFS did stop-and-search operations on the N12, near the Snake Road off-ramp. They stopped the driver of a white Toyota Fortuner.
“While searching the vehicle, the officers discovered five large bags containing dagga,” said Warrant Officer Grant Giblin, the BFS spokesperson.
“Upon arrest, the suspect offered the officers a R1 000 bribe for his release. The product, valued at R40 000, was confiscated and the money booked in as evidence.”
• Six suspects were arrested in separate incidents on charges of being in possession of drugs. The arrests were in Daveyton, Zenzele informal settlement, Putfontein, Servaas de Kock Avenue, Norkem Park, Elston and Turvey avenues, Benoni and High Road, Brakpan.
The BFS officers recovered heroin, Mandrax and crystal meth.

Possession of illicit cigarettes
During an integrated operation in Chief Albert Luthuli informal settlement, a man was arrested for being in possession of five cartons of illicit cigarettes.
Vehicles recovered
Two abandoned vehicles were recovered, both reported as hijacked.
A Toyota Hilux was found on the corner of Dube and Xaba streets, Wattville. The other was recovered in the Kanana Section, Thembisa.
RRS successes
In concentrated operations, including vehicle checkpoints, secure escorts and intensive patrols, 41 arrests were made for assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, possession of suspected stolen goods, malicious damage to property, fraud, rape, contempt of court, driving under the influence of alcohol, being in the country illegally, business burglary, attempted hijacking and common robbery.
Provincial members, comprising the Flying Squad, K9 Units and Highway Patrol, recovered 46 hijacked and stolen vehicles accompanied by 13 arrests on charges of being in possession of these vehicles.
Further investigations led to the recovery of 14 unlicensed firearms and 16 arrests for being in possession thereof.
Officers also arrested 46 for possession of drugs with the intent to sell.
