NWS Benoni karateka shine at nationals

It was the first NWS national championships since 2019.

The New World Shotokan (NWS) Benoni dojo finished fifth during the first NWS National Championships in three years, at Brakpan Indoor Sports Centre on August 5.

The tournament saw 11 dojos from across the country take to the mat after the national champs were put on hold due to Covid-19.

“This was a busy event with the NWS family from areas like Cape Town, Boland and White River and Boksburg competing on the day.

“Our chidlren trained hard for this tournament with three prior competitions leading to the national event.

“Some divisions were tougher than others but all had a good championships and gained experience for future tournaments. We are very proud of our members,” said sensei Janien Potgieter.

Gauteng walked away with provincial honours.
