Combined units arrest 86 suspects

Intensified operations will continue in an effort to stamp out crime.

Routine operations conducted by members of the Rapid Response Services (RRS), comprising the Flying Squad, K9 Units and Highway Patrol throughout Gauteng, arrested 86 suspects, from August 4 to 10.

While conducting concentrated operations, which included vehicle checkpoints as well as patrols, 20 arrests were made on charges including assault, hijacking, trespassing, fraud, domestic violence, house robbery, house break-in, attempted murder, possession of counterfeit goods and dealing in illicit cigarettes.

Officers further recovered 32 hijacked and stolen vehicles accompanied by 12 arrests for being in possession of these vehicles.

“During the operation, a further 23 people were arrested on charges of being in possession of unlicensed firearms; 14 firearms were seized,” said Warrant Officer Grant Giblin, spokesperson for the Benoni Flying Squad (BFS).

“Thirty-one suspects were also brought to book for being in possession and dealing of drugs. Heroin, dagga, cocaine, Mandrax and meth were confiscated.”
