Local NPO celebrates National Senior Citizens Day

A total 185 elderly citizens of Daveyton were treated to a lunch on National Senior Citizens Day.

Smile of Africa brought smiles to 185 elderly citizens of Daveyton on National Senior Citizens Day on August 21 at Victor Ndlazilwane Hall.

The annual event focused on celebrating and recognising contributions made by the elderly in communities.

Accompanied by the EMPD, Putfontein SAPS, Sanca and Clicks Daveyton, Smile of Africa treated the elderly to a meal and gift bags to appreciate them.

The founder of the NPO, Matshepo Kekana, said: “Thank you for all the good work you do for us. Your prayers have kept us alive because we know you pray for our safety. We are very grateful.

Elderly citizens of Daveyton showed up in numbers to support the initiative by Smile of Africa.

“We wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for your teaching methods. Many of you are being called names but you never hold grudges which shows how much you love us.”

Mabuya Secondary School choir entertained the elderly with their soothing songs while Kekana prepared games for the elderly to play.

Youngsters were given a platform to ask questions and get advice on how they can overcome challenges.

The elderly shared their wisdom and life experiences with attendees. They also thanked Smile of Africa for spoiling them on this special day.

Kekana thanked Clicks Daveyton for reaching out to the elderly.
